Schoolhouse Review: Zondervan

As a homeschooling mom I need all the encouragement I can get. Believe me there are days when I wonder why am I doing this homeschooling thing, have you ever thought that before? Hopefully you all have it more together than this homeschooling mama.

I am thankful for a husband who will listen to me and encourage me. I’m thankful for those that the Lord  has put in my path that understand and won’t judge me during times when I’m not so sure with continuing on. Most of all I thank the Lord for his mercy, grace, and forgiveness.

Homeschooling is a way of life for us. We wouldn't have it any other way because even though there are times when I want to throw in the homeschooling towel, there are way more good days. I love, love, love, having my children home.

And why am I writing all this on one of my Schoolhouse Reviews? I was blessed with the Homeschool Mom’s Bible from Zondervan that includes a daily encouragement for the homeschool mom. God knew I needed some daily encouragement from a mama who has been there and done that.

photo niv_zps46b5b3b8.jpg When I first received my Bible I was going through and reading some of the devotions. When one titled, Wanted: Homeschool Teacher popped out at me. It listed the many jobs of a homeschooling mom and I felt a sense of love and understanding surround me because it can be very overwhelming to add teacher to the ‘mom’ title and at times it can be a lonely and scary journey.

So many of the ‘requirements’ were not me. Imagine if I applied for the job. I would surely not have been hired. I am not a work well under pressure, multi tasking, and prioritize workloads while maintaining friendly attitude mom. I’m so far from it and more of a collapse and call my hubby in tears while trying to figure out how to get through a phonics lesson and wanting to scream “the letter a makes the /a/ sound” kind of gal.

I loved the prayer that was included in the devotion:

“Lord, homeschooling seems overwhelming, and there’s so much to learn. Like the new person on the job, teach me what I need to know to successfully homeschool with your wisdom, strength, and power. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

I have prayed that prayer more than once and have added to it to make the prayer my own. I’m so thankful for the homeschooling moms that have gone before me who will guide and mentor those who are following in their homeschooling footsteps.

Janet Tatman gives 365 days of motivation, inspiration, and realness from her heart and 25+ years of homeschooling her own 4 children. Each devotion begins with a scripture, a personal story, encouraging words, and a prayer.

The Homeschool Mom’s Bible has a lovely forward by Vickie Farris, a topical index in the back, weights and measures, a few pages for notes, and all the books of the Bible are in alphabetical order.

I received the hardback NIV edition (book jacket included). The cost for this beautiful all mom Bible is $34.99.

If you are in need of a new Bible or could use some encouragement you may want to make your next Bible a Homeschool Mom’s Bible. It’s available in NIV or KJV.

What I would have loved to see included in this pretty Bible is a schedule or if Mrs. Tatman would have given some verses for mom to look up and meditate on for that day. I do like how pretty this Bible is, even my boys commented saying it was a nice looking mom Bible.

Although we have lots of Bibles it was nice to have one all my own and with daily personal encouragement from a homeschooling mom. I loved brewing a cup of coffee and opening my Homeschool Mom’s Bible to soak up God’s Word.

  1. The Apologia science book looks very interesting. What age group are you using it with? I've been missing your food diaries. My cholesterol came back high and I really don't want to start on meds. What do you think has helped you the most?

Looks like you have a full year ahead of you. Seems like high school hits in a flash.
