Home School in the Woods U.S. Elections (Review)

Home School in the Woods U.S. Elections Lap-Pak

My kids and I have been working our way through the U.S.Elections from Home School in the Woods Publications.

History Through the Ages Hands on Lap-Pak: U.S. Elections is an engaging and fun way for your kids to learn all about the United States Presidential process. And when they are all done learning and putting their lapbook together they will have a lasting keepsake!

We received the download version of the U.S. ElectionsLap-Pak. It includes:
·         A Reading Text that accompany the activities. We used this to read before each activity.
·         MP3: loved this! It’s the reading text in audio format. Great for struggling readers or those who are auditory learners.  At our house I read the text though.
·         Full color instructions of how to assemble the file folders and how each project should look when completed.
·        -Step-by-step instructions for each activity.

After downloading your Lap-Pak you will have three folders: one with images (full color photos of the projects), a folder with two mp3 audios (30 minutes each!), and pdf files which include all the reading text, activities, and instructions.

Home School in the Woods makes it so easy to get started. Included are full color photos of how each activity should look and of the lapbook itself. Great for visual learners (like me). There are step-by-step instructions too.

This is such a great way to learn. Your child will interact with the lessons by reading, cutting, gluing/taping, and listening (if using the MP3)!

Some of the fun activities are Definition of “Elections”

Raising Money:

And The Three Branches of Government to name a few!

Here is how the lap-pak will look once your child completes it. I still need to purchase the Velcro so our lapbook will close.

And the back has a pocket for the little book. The instructions actually have you purchase a manilla envelope but we were on the cheap and I just used packaging tape and card-stock (what we had on hand) and it worked out =)

What I really liked is that the U.S. Elections Lap-Pak can be used for a variety of ages. For instance with some of the activities, when writing is involved -you can choose to have your child write and fill in the information or print the already completed text.

With Lance because he has difficulty with writing and I want learning to be a joy,  I printed the text option. With Brent we sometimes printed the completed text but other times I had him fill in the information.

So it really is easy to get the whole family helping with this Lap-Pak!

At our house I had Brent, Ethan, and Lance each make their own which means I was printing three of everything. I really wanted them each to have their own lapbook to review and thumb through.

We worked on it together. I would read from my own little booklet and the kids followed along. When dad came home he would ask them what they learned from their U.S. Elections study.

We are still working through parts of ours because of the many "life" interruptions (a good thing, except for the baseball size hail, we are sill recouping from that, haha). BUT we are having fun, learning, and the kids are retaining what they are learning from their Home School in the Woods Lap-Pak!

Bottom line: I'll admit there is a lot of printing and cutting but in the end you end up with a nice keepsake to look through. I was thinking of adding a picture of the kids to the back of their lapbook to make it more personal.

  1. We had a blast making ours at the beginning of the year! Yes, a lot of printing and even more cutting. If we do another, I think we will make ONE for the family. BTW...your little boys are getting big!!
