Joshua's B-Day and Lightning

Yesterday we celebrated Joshua's 8th Birthday. His theme was Batman. A while back I rented the old batman movie. It was so funny to watch. There was a shark scene and you could tell it was a rubber shark. I ordered him some Batman party stuff from Birthday Express.

Josh helped me bake his favorite chocolate cake.
Here is the recipe:1 Package (18.25 ounces) plain devil's food cake mix

1 Package (6 ounces; 1 cup) semisweet chocolate chips(put in last)
1 Package (3.9 ounces) chocolate instant pudding mix
1 Cup sour cream
1/2 cup oil
14 cup water
4 large eggs
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Preheat oven 350 degrees. Mix all ingredients except for the chocolate chips. Put those in after you have beat everything else together. bake for 50 min or when cake starts to pull away from pan and springs back when lightly pressed.

We got this recipe from the Cake Mix Doctor.

Josh also made a peanut butter frosting. With my help ;)

His party was at 6:00pm so he had to wait all day, poor guy. His Grandpa Joe, Uncle Joe, Aunt Cynce and his two cousins came. The rest of our family lives in CA. We sang Happy Birthday (out of tune) ate cake, jello and ice cream and he opened his gifts.

I also made his favorite breakfast that morning (Cream of Wheat) and he has been wanting to try shrimp so that is what I made him for dinner. I won't share that recipe, because you can buy it in a bag. He really enjoyed his birthday and said it was the best birthday ever. (Like he said that last year and the year before) He really liked staying up late the night before and helping me make the cake and getting all the goody bags ready. Normally I do that myself.

I still can't believe I have an eight year old. My how time goes by so fast. I still remember when I was pregnant with Josh. He was born two weeks after his due date and was 8lbs 2 oz (not my biggest either)

Also yesterday, I was pretty tired from staying up late the night before getting Joshy's birthday ready. I decided to lay down before starting dinner. It was raining, thundering and lightning. I was really enjoying our thunderstorm. I love hearing the rain and thunder. That is one thing I was looking forward to when we moved out here.(Texas) In Ca we didn't get too many thunderstorms. When I was little we did. (although Ca is having a lot of rain now that we moved) Well anyway, I was in and out of a nap. I could here Annette and MaryEllen talking at the top of the stairs, when all of a sudden I hear a loud BANG!!! and I hear noises coming from some where. I get up and go to the kitchen and my coffee grinder is on; grinding no coffee, my stove stinks like burnt plastic and it won't open and from the living room our Bose speaker is making a weird noise so I unplug the whole Bose system and our air conditioner on the bottom floor stopped. I'm thinking; what has just happened here. Well to make a long story short. Our sound system is not working, the stove is not working, a light socket up stairs is not working and our bottom floor air conditioner is not working. That is the most expensive thunderstorm I have ever enjoyed .

Today we had the air conditioner fixed for five hundred, our Bose was three thousand (which took us a year to save up for) and I don't know if we will fix or buy a new oven. I am just thankful that our house wasn't hit.

So by the end of yesterday I was hot and tired. Josh had fun though :) My Sweets and I had to sleep on the living room floor, because it was way too hot in our room.

Here is a cute movie for you all to watch, called; The Prize Winner of Defiance Ohio. It is a true story about a women who raised 10 kids. Her dh spends all his money on drinking but this extraordinary women keeps her family together with lots of love and laughter. It is rated pg-13 because there is a scene where the father is drunk and banging things around in the kitchen. So if you watch it with your kiddos you might want to fast forward that part. There is another scene where she falls holding her milk bottles and her hands are bleeding. It's not like there is blood splattering or anything. All in all it is a cute movie and I enjoyed it.

Blessings,
Linda<><
