Dishwasher Detergent

A tip on how to stretch your dishwasher detergent. Mix equal parts of Baking Soda, Borax and your regular dishwasher detergent. I know you can make homemade if you want to save more but I'm happy with stretching it. You only need about 1-2 Tablespoon. Depending on your water. I use one tablespoon and add vinegar in the rinse.

To make your own Dishwasher Detergent all you need is one part Washing Soda and one part Borox. Mix and put in a container. Use 1TBS. Fill your rinse indicator with vinigar.

I can't remember were I found the above tip. Another article said just by using the correct amount of dishwasher detergent without adding anything your box can last you a year. We tend to use way too much, you don't have to fill your dishwasher compartment to the brim. 1TBS should be enough to get your dishes clean.

I did find a few other recipes but they were starting to use more ingredients. To keep it simple I use the one above.

Some will claim that Borax is toxic and one shouldn't use it. I have researched and feel that it's okay to use as long as we are not breathing it in from the box or rubbing it on our skin daily. Here  and here are a few sites where you can get started with some Borax research.
