More Changes

The last two weeks we've had family visiting. We did a little school. Enough to count it as a week. It was really nice taking a semi vacation from school.
Yesterday, started our full workload again, with that I made some changes too.
  • No computer time in the morning. School first. Computer second.
Because I'm no longer checking my email or homeschool forums during school, I'm able to get in a lot more schooling. I stand in my little 'teacher' area, it's next to the whiteboard. I have my crates and file box within reach. I only leave to go potty or get some water.
I still haven't been able to get all my tutoring sessions in. For example; yesterday I didn't get Phonics Road or Saxon Math 1. Today I still need to have a math session with Brent and a Phonics lesson with Ethan. I figure what doesn't get done today, I can start with tomorrow. Sort of like a loop schedule. I also have Saturday.
  • Go to bed at a decent time.
A decent time for Lupe and I, is before midnight. Our goal for this week is to be in bed; teeth brushed and actually under the blankets by 11:30 p.m.
  • Wake-up at 7:00 a.m. dressed by 8:00 a.m.
Monday and Tuesday, so far, so good. I wake up, shower, dress, make me a few {yes, two} egg burritos and get my coffee ready. I no longer wake up, make my coffee and linger at the computer. My coffee {which I need my cup of decaf. It's a treat} is sipped while I read our read aloud or Bible.
  • Check school work and get ready the night before.
I was getting lazy in this department. At night instead of having computer time, I have to check today's work and get ready for the next day.
Getting ready for the next day usually consist of, looking over Bob Jones Math4, Saxon Phonics 1, Saxon Phonics Intervention, McRuffy or Saxon Math teacher manuals. I find it works best if I look at the lesson the night before. I tried looking at a weeks worth of lessons but I'd forget things. It's not so fun doing this every night before school but it's gotta be done.

Those are some of the changes. It's mainly disciplining myself.

  1. oooo, I love my morning egg burrito too..granted my has cheese and salsa but, Yum! Also, love my morning coffee. I too am trying to figure out the best routine. My daughter wakes up so early so it's hard to do anything other than wake up with her and then I don't get a shower until her first nap at 10 which is tough. Sounds like you are doing a good job making changes for the better!

  2. Why is it that cutting out the computer works only if you go cold turkey? DH says I'm on the computer too much if I answer his emails within 15 minutes of him sending them. I've been working on cutting it down during the day as well. Now he complains that he sends me emails (generally with a question or a request for me to check something for him) and I don't answer him. So he's calling me - and I don't like picking up the phone during school hours either. Good for you - and if you figure out the secret to conquering the computer monster long term let me know. Blessings.
