Next Year

I'm going to blog what I'd like to use for next school year 11/12 and see how many changes I make before we actually start. Hee, hee. I'll try to be detailed as possible but remember my fingers are cold. It's another chilly day of 30 degrees but feels like 23 degrees and yes, I'm feeling it. I walk around with a scarf and jacket in the house.

I pretty much know what Josh and Annette will use, it's the younger ones that I'm flip-flopping with.

Joshua's 8th grade year.

Bob Jones Heritage Studies 8 (American History)
Bob Jones Science 7 (Life Science)
Bob Jones Grammar and Writing 7 (this year Josh, is using Saxon Grammar 6, so I decided to have him use BJ7 instead of skipping)
Bob Jones Literature 7
Bob Jones Spanish 1
Bob Jones Bible Truths 7 (chose 7 because it covers the life of Christ, 8 is OT and Joshua has studied the OT)
Latin- maybe or maybe not but if we do Latin for Children Primer A or The Latin Road
Writing- not sure yet.

Annette 6th grade year

Bob Jones Bible 6
Bob Jones Math 6
Bob Jones Science 6
Bob Jones Reading 6
Bob Jones Handwriting 6
Bob Jones Reading 6
Bob Jones Grammar and Writing 6
Bob Jones Spelling
Latin for Children Primer A

Caleb 5th Grade Year

Easy Classical Main Schedule for Grammar,  Writing, Spelling, Copywork, Logic, Latin, Bible.
Handwriting- A Reason for Handwriting
Math- Bob Jones 5
Science- Easy Classical or Bob Jones
History- Easy Classical Old Testament and Ancient Egypt

Brent 4th Grade Year

Easy Classical Main Schedule for Grammar, Writing, Spelling, Copywork, Logic, Latin and Bible
Handwriting-A Reason for Handwriting
Math- Bob Jones 4
Science- Easy Classical or Bob Jones
History- Easy Classical Old Testament and Ancient Egypt

Ethan 3rd Grade Year

Math-Bob Jones 3
Phonics- not sure. If we follow Easy Classical I may go with their suggestion of Phonics Pathways.
Handwriting-A Reason for Handwriting
Easy Classical Main Schedule for Bible, Grammar, Writing, Copywork, Spelling and Latin
Science-depends what I choose for Caleb and Brent
History- Easy Classical (same as Caleb)

Lance 1st Grade

Phonics- either Bob Jones 1 or Phonics Pathways or Saxon (I'm so undecided. He may be too silly & immature for Saxon Phonics 1)
Handwriting-A Reason for Handwriting
Math- McRuffy Math combined with some Saxon
History and Science will be the same as Caleb's
Easy Classical Main Schedule for Grammar, Bible, Copywork and Spelling.

With Ethan and Lance, I would like to combine them with Easy Classical Main Schedule level 1. I have looked at the samples and think this is a good fit for both. My goal is to get Lance, ready for more writing.

Caleb and Brent, I plan to combine them with Easy Classical Main Schedule for level 3.  EC uses Spelling Workout D if one must put that as a grade level it would be 4th grade. Shurley English is level 3 and although Caleb will be in 5th grade he hasn't had too much grammar. From what I hear, Shurley English is so repetitious that one can skip a grade (going from grade 3 to 5) not that the numbers matter much too me.

Josh and Annette will both use Bob Jones DVD program.

  1. Linda,
Sounds like a good plan to me :) My oldest son has been using the BJU Science 6 with the DVD this year, and I must say, we are more than pleased. The teacher Ms. Vick is a wonderful teacher, you can tell she really loves to teach. Not to mention, the dvd's can help free you up some (which I'm sure you need with 6 kids :) I think they are definately worth the money!
    Blessings,
    Kristi

  2. Wow, you really have it all planned out already. I'm still teetering and tottering. ;)

Just when I think I've got it down, I change my mind about something. It's nice to see you are continuing with Bob Jones Math. That says a lot about the math. I can't wait to see it because it looks like the perfect mix of spiral and mastery.

I'm still so unsure about math, but I think if I don't see anything I like, I'm going to use a combination of Math U See and Christian Light, or CLE math and something mastery on the side for practice...ugh, you see how undecided I am.

Hopefully one look at BJU will change my mind! Hopefully! LOL! :)

I'll get it all posted when I finally make up my mind.

    Hope you stay warm!

ps What will you use for spelling for Josh?

  3. As of today ;) I really feel good about the choices, something I didn't feel last year. If you all remember I had a HARD time.
Joshua's spelling, I'm still not sure. I am considering Spelling Power (but it's expensive) Soaring with Spelling. That's what I'm looking at so far.
I'm glad to hear BJ Science 7 is a good.
