2011/2012 Hit and Misses =)

I thought it would be fun to write about what worked and what didn't work for us this year. I'll start with my oldest and work my way down to Lance, my youngest. This might get long, so please grab your favorite drink and enjoy ;)
Hits, meaning we stuck with it. Doesn't mean the children were jumping up and down because they wanted to do that subject all the time.
Misses, meaning we didn't stick with it. It wasn't a hated subject. Also keep in mind with the younger children I switched their curricula in the middle of the year.
Joshua, 8th grade.
Hits
  1. Bob Jones History. Josh absolutely loves this DVDs and all!!! (finished 75%, about what we planned for him)
  2. Bob Jones Literature. (half way done)
  3. Copywork, he did this three times a week with no complaint (done)
  4. Bob Jones Bible
  5. Writing with Skill (75% complete)
  6. Teaching Textbook, this was used on and off as a supplement to Sytematic Math (TT 50% done, but this was not his main math program)
  7. Systematic Math (completed 2 modules)
  8. Latin Primer A (50% complete)
Semi Hits
  1. Bob Jones Science, he liked it but it's pretty heavy.(25% done)
  2. Bob Jones Grammar and Writing~he wants to try this again next year
Misses
  1. Bob Jones Spanish~although he does want to try this again next year.
Annette 6th grade.
Hits
  1. America the Beautiful (almost completed, there are a lot of lessons to be done daily, so we missed a few)
  2. Analytical Grammar (finished Season 1, 2 and part of 3, way to go Annette!!!)
  3. Copywork for Girls (she would go back and forth with copying verses but was diligent to do copywork almost daily)
  4. Soaring with Spelling (completed)
  5. A Nature Walk with Aunt Bessie (completed)
  6. Writing with Skill, she started with this once it became available 1/12, but switched to Write with World (a review item that she wanted to continue with)
  7. Write with World (above) (almost done)
  8. Latin Primer A (50% done)
Misses
WP Language Arts. We liked it but it fell to the way side. I guess it was too much considering she had AG and WWS. One part of WP Language Arts that she didn't like was the spelling component.

Caleb 5th grade
Hits
  1. Preparing Hearts, although it was a rough start, he did enjoy the parts we did together, especially the history and Storytime. Both boys were always asking for more.
  2. Simply Spelling~this was working well, but when I switched to Heart of Dakota we dropped it, because it would have been too much.
  3. Math-U-See (just about finished, a few lessons left)
  4. Math Whiz, an online supplement.
  5. All About Spelling levels 1,2,3 (need to finish level 3)
  6. Shurley English (done)
Misses
  1. WinterPromise Hideaways in History, I really wanted to like this but I needed more Bible woven in with our history.
  2. Leading Little Ones to God, I think this was just too young for Caleb and Brent.
  3. Tracking Your Walk, this was a journal type Bible Study.
  4. Easy Classical Writing, I only had the boys do a few lessons. It just didn't flow with me. Maybe I needed more instruction.
  5. Spelling Workout, pretty boring.
Brent 4th grade

  3. Teaching Textbook 5
  4. All About Spelling levels 1,2,3 (need to finish lesson 3 but completed 1 & 2)
  5. Shurley English (done)
Misses (same as Caleb's)

Ethan 3rd grade
Hits
  1. Beyond Little Hearts
  2. Teaching Textbooks 3 (almost done, needs five more lessons)
  3. Writing with Ease 1 was a hit, but I stopped it because of HOD, Beyond School.
Misses
  1. All About Spelling, this was more my fault with not finding the time
  2. WP Hideaway in History, wanted more Christ in our history.
Lance 1st grade
  1. Little Hearts, this is more of a sorta, because I don't do it everyday.
  2. All About Reading (few more lessons)
  3. Math for a Living Education from Queen Homeschool (done)
Misses
  1. PAL/Reading, it just was not Lance's learning style. It moved too fast for him. He was on the older side of the program but again, it wasn't a good fit for Lance.
  2. PAL/Writing, we liked this one but, Lance, was still having trouble forming his letters and such, that I decided to stop. He couldn't do the copywork.
