Week 4 of Summer School

I lost track of the actual day. I'll have to figure later. Today we mainly did Math and Writing.

Here is what we used:
Math Essentials with Josh, he watched the DVD and completed a page. He is moving to fractions. I know he has been working on fractions all year, hopefully Mr. Fisher can help him =)

Math Made Easy with Lance, today he played a game, did some flashcard drill and completed a workbook page.

Professor B Math with Ethan, he is moving on to times 3. What I love about this program is we can do the math lesson whenever and wherever. After watching the presentation with him I can pretty much do the lesson without Professor B, have him go over if for a few days then move on.

Math-U-See Epsilon with Caleb, he is doing really well with this. Annette, finished and I need to order Zeta for her but it will have to wait a few weeks.

Create Better Writers~How to Teach the Paragraph, with Josh, Annette, Caleb and Brent. They are still separated. Next week Josh and Annette will start How to Teach the Five Paragraph Essay.

King Alfred's English, Josh and I still need to read a chapter together. Me, I'm almost done with the book. It's very good, but can't say more until I post my review =)

HearBuilder Auditory Memory System, with Josh, Caleb, Brent and Ethan.

Today's Professor B lesson. Each finger represents three sticks.
What I do throughout the day is show my fingers and Ethan, will say a number. For instance if I hold two fingers up, he will say "6", if I hold three fingers, it's "9". We practice this for a few days before moving on.
You will have to click on the image below to enlarge and see what I'm talking about.
On the far right you will see that this lesson takes 26 minutes and 34 seconds. This doesn't mean I spent all 26 minutes, I actually spent 10 minutes because now I am going to practice with him away from the computer for a few days and several times a day. Once he can say how many 'sticks' all the way to 10, then I'll move on and continue with the lesson. Basically this 26 minute lesson can take several days or longer, it really just depends on the child. Can you tell I'm loving this program.

Caleb and Brent working on Create Better Writers. Below is the Step about Topic Sentences. They'll do this for two more days then move on to the next step.
Copying from the board while eating Shredded Mini Wheats.
Caleb a bit cold because his mama has the air conditioner on pretty low. This is why they drink hot chocolate in the summer too.
 Lance using Math Whizz.
This past year I have missed teaching math to Ethan. Teaching Textbooks has been a real blessing and I'm still debating which route to go with Ethan. Another math that is a Schoolhouse Review item that I am considering for Ethan is Mastering Essential Math Skills Book 1. I would actually like to switch Annette and Caleb from Math-U-See to Essential Math as well but they REALLY like Mr. Demme, I dislike switching when they are enjoying it. I guess I could wait until they finish Zeta.

Anyway, that's where we are at right now. I still am trying to decide on a few things for next year.

  1. I know how that is, Adam loves Mr. Demme as well. He has loved doing the highschool math courses with Mr. Demme.
