Schoolhouse Review: Papa’s Pearls

Papa's Pearls
I was delighted to review Papa’s Pearl A Father’s Gift of Love and Wisdom to His Children and Grandchildren. This book is full of Papa’s wisdom which is authored by Diane Flynn Keith, the daughter of whom the book is about, her Papa.
This 112 page book is a true gem full of common sense advice. We get so busy in this fast paced world that we forget that “Life is Too Short. Relax. Take a Little Time Off” as papa would say (chapter 15).

“If You Want to Be Successful-Spend Your Time with Successful People” (chapter 12). This is so true. We have discussed the same practical advice with our own children.
“Buy Real Estate” (chapter 12). This is another area in which my husband and I agree with PaPapa's Pearlspa. We encourage our children to save their money to buy some property to either rent or ‘flip’ as they call it these days.

I had to smile when I read “You Gotta Do What Ya Gotta Do~Tell Yourself You Like It” (chapter 6). So many times I say something similar to the children.

“Let It Go-Like Water Off a Duck’s Back” (chapter9), my older sister once said this to me and I never forgot it. It’s what I tell my children as well.

“Keep a Foxy Pocket” (chapter 12) was a new one for me. That piece of advice is in the same chapter as “Buy Real Estate”. A foxy pocket is a secret place to keep money for unexpected expenses. I need to have the children do this.

As you can see, Papa’s Pearls is full of practical advice but the book also tells a story. A story of a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather. He had a special relationship with not only his own children but his grandchildren. He made each one feel special.

The book reminded me that I need to take the time to tuck the children in bed. You don’t have to stop just because your son is now 14 years old. This I know because when I tuck in my oldest son Joshua, he has a big smile. That right there tells me it’s still important to them to have mama around and show them they are loved.

I haven’t read Papa’s Pearls to the children yet. I plan to have my husband read it to them but at the moment we are finishing up another book. Every Friday after supper my husband reads the children a chapter from a book.

Once we are done with that book their dad will start Papa’s Pearls. I think the children are going to really enjoy this book and I like that it reinforces what we are teaching the children.

This book is written for adults so you may want to pre read it first.
This heartwarming book cost $21.97 including shipping. Hope you pick one up to share with your family. I think you will be happy you did!
