TOS Summer School Week 2

Moving Beyond the Pate

The children and I are having fun with Moving Beyond the Page~Social Studies: Immigration study.

I received the physical book of Immigration but also purchased the download so I could use it with 3 of my children.

Caleb enjoys the poetry. I shouldn’t have been surprised as he likes classical music as well.

Here are a few of the poetry pages that the children have completed from Moving Beyond the Page~Poetry Study.

Ethan’s work.

He goofed on this page but I liked his drawing of the coffee spilling. This is from the poem Watercolor Main by C. Drew Lamm. The part of the poem that reads “Captain’s black coffee rocks on the floor”.

Learning geography as well as poetry. I read poems pertaining the Southeast States from the book My America A Poetry Atlas of the United States, selected By Lee Bennett Hopkins.

Brent’s notebook was not at the table when I was taking pictures so there are not as many.

Excellence in Writing is working out great. Caleb especially likes it. We are on Lesson 3. I didn’t realize how easy IEW makes it to teach. For some reason it always seemed complicated. I don’t think that anymore. Below is a picture of the Teacher’s Notes for Lesson 3.

Excellence in Writing

Brent and Caleb today did their Excellence in Writing separately. Caleb wanted to go to the library with Annette and Grandpa. Since I don’t have to teach (guide of course) because Mr. Pudewa does the teaching I can do that. Usually I’m the one teaching and have to have them together otherwise I’d be teaching twice.

I didn’t get a Prima Latina picture but we covered that too. The children reviewed and worked on a few workbook pages.

Here is Annette’s history art from Heart of Dakota. She is almost done with her schooling.

Heart of Dakota

I think it’s an Indian strap but I’ll have to ask Annette and edit.

Joshua completed a full days work. He is determined to complete all his assignments. I did let him know that I’m okay with a some lessons not getting done. I know when I was in high school we didn’t complete all our books. In fact I don’t remember completing any.

Joshua started school late this year because he was helping a his Auntie R, in another state. Her hubby was out of the country and she had to get ready to move. Josh was a huge help to her. I’m very proud of my son. He is a true servant. He knew it would affect his school year and still wanted to be available to her. I’m sure it helped that she’s fun to be around too. She’s a fun mama, plays air soft wars with him.
