Our 1st Week (Aug. 9th-13th)

Homeschooling6 2013-2014

Our first week back to homeschooling went great!!!! One day I was up at 5:30 A.M. and another day I started school at 7:30 A.M. with Brent and Ethan. We worked together through some pages from their AWANA book.

I was busy as busy can be with schooling 6 children and babysitting a cute, sweet, loveable, 3 month old baby boy but thank the Lord school got done (for the most part).

Instead of writing exactly what everyone accomplished I’ll post some pictures and write what was being taught. I do want to do a better job with writing about Joshua and Annette’s school this year.

I will say that Joshua LOVES his Heart of Dakota curriculum. He even said he liked it better than Bob Jones and he again loved Bob Jones.

This year Caleb, Brent, and Ethan will use their AWANA studies as part of Bible time this year. Memoria Press has them doing a course called Christian Studies. This is scheduled only once a week. At first I was super disappointed in myself for not seeing that their Christian Studies was not a daily thing. Now though I’m thanking Jesus because we can incorporate their AWANA in and really concentrate on their AWANA verses.

For years we have always felt torn with the children memorizing scripture because our homeschool curricula always had lots of scripture verses to memorize plus the kids are in AWANA. This year I’m not feeling so stressed out about scripture memorization. In the end it was a blessing that their Memoria Press Christian Studies is not a daily thing. Thank you Jesus.

Annette has not joined our Latin studies yet but I did order her a workbook just in case.

This week I had the kids each take turns teaching the soft and hard sounds.

Caleb, Brent, and Ethan, completed their first week of Composition the Fable Stage.

Memoriap Press

Caleb’s work.

Brent working hard and not complaining. In fact he said he likes Memoria Press more than Heart of Dakota.

Ethan makes lots of noises and has a hard time keeping it. He dawdles.

I understand that there is a lot of writing involved and it is hard for a wiggly 10 year old boy but I also know he needs the discipline and structure.

  1. Yay for completing the first week of school!

It's always such a good feeling to get that first week done -- we did too.

We LOVED every aspect of Heart of Dakota! It was so easy to implement and so much is learned with such simple lessons. I can't thank you enough for your introduction to HOD.

Thank you for being such a good friend over the years.

  2. I'm so glad Jane that you are enjoying Heart of Dakota. I miss it and was looking forward to using Beyond and Bigger with my two little guys. I still have time to switch ;)

You have been a huge blessing to me and I'm so grateful for your friendship.

I love hearing from you all!
