Week 1-Day 2 (2013/14)

Homeschooling6 2013-2014
I didn’t get as much done (again) as I would have liked. At the same time though I have told myself not to expect every assignment checked off on that day. I have given myself grace (not laziness) to take our time but not too long to complete our weekly assignments with Memoria Press.
The two older children do really good with completing their Heart of Dakota curriculum with some help from me (like listening to narrations, Bible time, etc.).
With Caleb, Brent, and Ethan we completed:
  • First Form Latin
  • Rod and Staff Spelling
  • Rod and Staff Math (Ethan and Brent) 5 & 6 and VideoText Algebra (Caleb)
  • Literature-The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe
  • English Grammar (Memoria Press)
Each subject takes about 30-40 minutes because I’m teaching them all. The only thing I don’t like about this is the kids have to wait for me. Today I was busy with the baby that I’m watching (cute little 3 month old boy), and wasn’t able to start school with them at 8:00 A.M. They had to wait until I was available at 9:00 A.M. even though I was up at 6:00 A.M.

This is what the boys were doing before school while I was busy tending to the baby.

Who said a dirty diaper is not good for anything? My boys made a slingshot out of their father’s work face mask and used the diaper as the ammo. Eeeks, don’t want to get in their way!!!

Here is the precious little guy. He sure brings us lots of joy. Annette is having fun helping me. Last night she did half of today’s school work so she could be available in the morning which helped me get some schooling done.

Today’s First Form Latin lesson was hard for me. I thought I was pretty prepared but I fumbled a lot. I forgot to order the pronunciation CD which I really do need. I ordered it today from Amazon along with two extra workbooks so Annette and Joshua can join our Latin class.
I didn’t get to Famous Men of Rome and hope to get that in tonight (yeah right, huh?).
Lance wanted to make sure he got his schooling in as well.
Today we completed:
  • Rod and Staff Math
  • Prima Latina
  • Handwriting Without Tears Cursive
  • Memoria Press Literature Study-The Courage of Sarah Noble
  • SRA Phonics (Memoria Press)

I had him copy what I wrote. This year my focus with the four youngest children is to have them write more. This is one of the reasons why I chose Memoria Press. Ethan especially has told me that there is soooooo much writing. In fact he mentioned to his dad yesterday that all he did was write for a very long time.

I had Lance practice reading words with the silent final e and he did very well. The words with the long ‘U’ sounds were a bit hard for him (flute, mute, etc.).
Lance didn’t care for his first Latin lesson but that’s okay. I told him he’ll thank me in the future sometime.

Joshua working hard too!
Bridgeway Math
Right now Joshua’s math is pretty easy and he knows it will become more difficult as he progresses. He loves the format of the program. Totally fits his personality. At the bottom of each math page there are places for him to check off his work.
Bridgeway Math
All-in-all it was a good school day. I’m not stressing about what we don’t get done but rejoicing in what we do accomplish. I figure a little each day will keep us moving forward. I do make sure they complete the main subjects like math and language arts.

  1. Looks like all is going well with your studious children.

The baby is just darling. I miss those baby snuggles.

  2. Thanks, and I'm loving that baby. He is so cute and doesn't fuss a lot. If he does it's because he's hungry or tired.

Sorry about the word verification. I know it makes commenting no fun but I have been getting so much spam. Thank you for understanding and I hope you will take the time to comment. I love hearing from you all.
