Reading Atkins Book (again)

It has been over a year since I’ve read this book and I could use some motivation.
Not that I don’t like living a low-carb lifestyle because I can’t imagine ever going back to the way I was eating again. But rereading can be a good thing.
It’s a great refresher and a reminder of why I no longer eat most grains and have stayed away from sugar.
It has been over a year and a half and I’ve kept most of the weight off. I say most because I go up and down within 5 pounds. Lately its been up because I am eating a bit too much carbs.

This is one of the reasons why I’m rereading the book. I need the motivation to get strict. I’m not eating a lot of refined, processed, sugar, foods but every now-and-then I will eat that hamburger with one piece of bread or snag a tortilla chip or eat too many french fries. Meteor Burger makes a mean fry Winking smile.

I did take a 2 week vacation and managed to eat (low-carb) healthy 75% of the time. The only times I ate high carb foods, was when we were invited to dinner at a friends/family house.

And I’ll admit I did the whole ‘you deserve that’ thing. Bad me, but there was this one sandwich called a Torta at a Mexican restaurant. The bread is so good. It’s a sandwich with steak, sour cream, avocado, soft cheese (not sure the name of it but it’s similar to feta or goat cheese), mayo, and lettuce. I could have said, ‘no’ but it’s so good and I hadn’t had one in years.

So the splurging needs to stop. I haven’t gained weight thankfully (other than the up and down with 5lbs). I don’t splurge on a daily bases so that’s good, but because I’ve been eating more carbs my cholesterol has risen some. My doctor wants to put me on a low dose of statin.

I started walking at least 3 times a week. I should walk more and plan to when the weather is nicer. Not so hot. I think walking will help too.

A few more reads I would like to add to my ‘diet’ shelf:
The Coconut Ketogenic Diet (sounds interesting and I LOVE coconut)

And by ‘diet’ I mean a healthy way of eating, a life style. It’s not all about losing weight for me but being healthy and educating my family.

  1. Enjoy your reading! I've never read the book, but have so gleaned from your shared wisdom!
