Heart of Dakota School

I know I recently wrote a post of what we school curricula we are using right now because we won’t start our new homeschool year until January. Well, that was before I had all the beautiful notebooks.
Heart of Dakota
I was super excited to finally see the first installment of the World History Journal and Guide.
Heart of Dakota
So with that I’ve been very slowly adding in a few boxes (from the guide) for the younger kiddos: Caleb, Brent, Ethan, and Lance.

I say slow because I’m reading almost everything in the four guides: Mission to Modern Marvels, Revival to Revolution, Creation to Christ, and Preparing.
Actually Caleb is doing most of his own reading. I want to sit with him more but haven’t had the time. In fact it’s 3:00 P.M. right now and I still need to sit with Lance, get back to Brent to do the Inventor Study, and go over literature questions with Annette.

Here is a little bit of what Lance has completed in Preparing.
  Preparing Hearts
I printed the first 10 notebooking units that a talented mama made. I thought this would make things easier on Lance.
Preparing Hearts for His Glory
His notebook is organized.

Because I am helping 4 boys do their school every day which includes an hour with Caleb and Brent for Rod and Staff English 4, All About Reading 3, and Writing & Rhetoric, it has taken us 4 days to complete 3 days and that’s skipping the history project for week 1.
Preparing Hearts
Unfortunately he’s not always that smiley but I’ll take it when it does happen!
Preparing Hearts
Lance didn’t write all the words to the memory verse and I know I should have had him write it again but I didn’t. He has a hard time writing as it is and I don’t want to discourage him. In time I’ll become more strict.

Here is Ethan.
Fix It! Grammar
We are really liking Fix It! Grammar. It only takes 15 minutes a day so we’ve been able to continue with English Lessons Through Literature.

Today I read from Genesis Finding Our Roots.
Creation to Christ
Ethan is putting together a generations flapbook.

I gave Ethan my large print Bible. I thought it would be something special for him as he marks it up and makes it his own study Bible.
Creation to Christ
Highlighting a verse.

I was able to get an All About Reading 3 and All About Spelling 3 lessons in. He completed lesson 5 in reading and 6 in spelling. We are taking two days to complete one lesson in All About Spelling.
All About Spelling
Sorry I don’t have any pictures of Caleb and Brent. Hopefully this week I’ll get a few good ones.

Both boys are having trouble with possessive pronouns, especially with plural possessive. I have found by letting them teach it to me and/or with me walking them through it while they are teaching it has helped.
Rod and Staff English
Caleb teaching while Brent laughs and cheers him on.

Yesterday I was still teaching at 7:00 P.M. but you know what? I really enjoyed my time with each of my boys. I loved sitting and reading to them. Would I like for them to read most of their work on their own and do the projects without me, yes, but at the same time they are growing up too fast. Maybe this is God’s way of showing me that I need to slow down and enjoy reading aloud to them, sitting and laughing with them.

I admit it gets frustrating at times but again, one day this house is going to be way too quite!
